Star trails in New Jersey.
A lengthy time exposure on a camera trained on a moonless, star-studded sky will reveal the delightful patterns of star trails, the movement of the stars in a graceful arching shape. The phenomenon is revealed because of the Earth's rotation over an extended time. A strong, dark object or objects in the foreground makes the trails even more dramatic in contrast.
